Equivocation

The misleading use of a term with more than one meaning (by glossing over which meaning is intended at a particular time).

Example

Teaching philosophy helps people to argue better, but I think people already argue with each other too much.

Here the first instance of the word argue means to debate and propose ideas, whereas the second instance of the word means to fight and be in conflict with others.
