Fallacy of the Single Cause

Other Names

Causal oversimplification

Description

It is assumed that there is one, simple cause of an outcome when in reality it may have been caused by a number of only jointly sufficient causes.

Example

- I've lost ten pounds since I started using HexatrimTM weight loss supplements. This stuff works great!

- You also improved your diet, started going to the gym three times per week, and sleeping more. I'm not sure the supplements had anything to do with it.
